After studying and doing his doctorate at the Hannover Medical School, Hashim Abdul-Khaliq initially worked for three years in the neonatology department of the Auguste Viktoria Hospital in Berlin and then for twelve years at the German Heart Center Berlin in the Clinic for Congenital Heart Defects – Pediatric Cardiology, most recently for six years as senior physician.

His habilitation at the Berlin Humboldt University was followed in 2005 by a call to pediatric cardiology at the Saarland University Hospital.

Hashim Abdul-Khaliq is a member of the German Society for Pediatric Cardiology (DGPK), the German Society for Cardiology (DGK) and the Association for European Pediatric and Congenital Cardiology (AEPC). As a member of the medical-scientific advisory board of Marfan Hilfe (Germany) e. V. and on the advisory board of the Bundesverband Herzkranke Kinder e. V., the pediatric cardiologist also advises the patient associations.

Pediatric Cardiology

Dr. Howaida El-Said is the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and a clinical professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego. She is one of only two ABIM-certified adult congenital heart disease specialists in San Diego, Imperial and Riverside counties.

Dr. El-Said completed her pediatrics residency, pediatric cardiology fellowship, imaging fellowship and interventional pediatric cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She trained under the founder and father of interventional pediatric cardiology, Dr. Charles Mullins, which gave her vast exposure to the most complex adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) cases.

After completing her medical training in 2000, Dr. El-Said became an associate pediatric cardiologist at Baylor before coming to San Diego. She performs close to half of the diagnostic and interventional procedures at the Rady Children’s cardiac catheterization laboratory. Thirty percent of her cardiac catheterization procedures are ACHD cases, including percutaneous valve implantations.

She remains an active clinical researcher, having authored almost 50 publications.
